After his sold-out concert on 3 March, award-winning South African musician Bongeziwe Mabandla is back in Berlin on 23 May hours at the Kulturbrauerei.
Mabandla is a South African award-winning singer, musician and songwriter from the rural town of Tsolo in the Eastern Cape. He has recorded four highly acclaimed albums and has performed on numerous national and international stages. His acclaimed live performances regularly take him on sold-out tours and to international venues and festivals such as the London-based 100 Club, Reeperbahn Festival in Hamburg (Deutschland), Lake of Stars (Malawi), the Afrovibes Festival (The Netherlands), Womex (Finland) and the Oslo World Festival (Norway).
Mabandla is a sought-after collab partner who has extended his talents to film and visual art. He is part of the Black Alternative Sound, which has established itself as a unique and enticing form of music.
With his debut album “Umlilo” (2012) Mabandla first caught the attention of music fans. Since then, he has released three albums in collaboration with the composer, instrumentalist and producer Tiago Correia-Paulo. His current album amaXesha“ (2023) has brought him to the international stage.
Mabandla’s numerous awards include two South African Music Awards, best music video at then Capital City Black Film Awards 2018 and The Guardian’s „Global Album of the Month“ award for „amaXesha.“
