Women’s Carnival Day (Weiberfastnacht)

Weiberfastnacht marks the start of the final days of Karneval, celebrated on the Thursday before Ash Wednesday.
Traditionally, women take over the streets and town halls, playfully “cutting off” men’s ties as a symbol of taking control for the day.
Festivities include parades, costume parties, and lots of laughter, especially in Cologne, Düsseldorf, and Mainz.
The day is full of spirited fun, humour, and a sense of rebellion before the more solemn Lenten period begins.
