Third Sunday of Advent (3. Advent)

The Third Sunday of Advent, or 3. Advent is often called Gaudete Sunday, a day of joy in the midst of preparation.
On this Sunday, the third candle on the Advent wreath (Adventskranz) is lit, symbolising joy and rejoicing.
In Germany, it’s a time for festive gatherings, singing carols, and enjoying seasonal treats like Stollen and mulled wine. The Christmas markets are in full swing, twinkling with lights and bustling with holiday spirit.
Though not a public holiday, 3. Advent encourages families and friends to pause, celebrate the little joys of the season, and embrace the approaching Christmas with happiness and hope.
