The African Picnic Festival at Goethe Institute in Schwäbisch Hall, Baden-Württemberg, is the brainchild of Mthunzi Fesi, a young South African, who is also a promoter for South African artists touring Europe.
The festival was first hosted on 16 June 2014. This year, the ninth edition of the festival will take place from 31 May to 2 June, boasting a fun-filled programme that will provide people from all walks of life with the opportunity to enjoy African music, art, culture and cuisine.
The festival serves to commemorate South African Youth Day, open doors for South African artists, showcase South Africa’s and Africa’s heritage, and build a bridge between Baden-Württemberg and South Africa.
The festival’s proceeds will be donated to support the charitable Outlangish Youth Skateboard project in Langa, Cape Town. www.outlangish.com engages young people in sports activities and offers them a perspective on life and a space for constructive dialogue and positive interactions among peers.
